History
Eureka is one of the best-preserved mining towns in the West. The well-kept promenade features a line of charming brick rowhouses and storefronts, and more structural icons standing as proud monuments known state-wide.
The Eureka Opera House was built in 1880 and served as a center for entertainment and culture in the region. It still hosts a variety of events, including operas, plays, dances, concerts, and other community gatherings. The building is known for its beautiful architecture and ornate interior, featuring a stage, balconies, and seating for the audience.

Nestled in the heart of Eureka's downtown, and behind the Eureka County Courthouse, lies the Eureka Sentinel Museum. The building originally housed the Eureka Sentinel newspaper from 1879-1960, and displays the original, complete press room. Dive into the region’s history among original printing presses and other one-of-a-kind artifacts.

Originally constructed in 1876, the Eureka County Courthouse is an historical masterpiece. An extensive renovation took place in 1995. As Eureka has maintained the County Seat, the Courthouse still functions as the governmental and legal center for the county. The interior of the building continues to display some original furniture and walk-in vaults. An absolute must-see when you find Eureka, NV!

Eureka/Palisade Rail Car
Located across the street from the Jackson House Hotel, this railroad car was once owned by the Eureka & Palisade Railroad. The E&P was a narrow-gauge train founded in 1873 and originally used to transport ore from the Ruby Hill mines. The railroad's second year of operation saw them add four more locomotives and three passenger cars to their stock. Today, you can stop by while touring Main Street Eureka, take photo-ops marking your trek across Hwy. 50, and learn more Eureka County history!

The Tannehill brothers built this cabin for a residence in 1864 and lived here about a year before selling their mining interests to a New York company in 1866. The cabin subsequently went through a number of owners, including the firm of Nathan & Harrison, one of the area's first mercantile establishments in the late 1860s.

Fires, floods, and the ravages of time have spared the structure, and local residents take justifiable pride in the fact that it still stands.
